News and commentary about Oak Park, IL that becomes material for Jim Bowman’s A Short History of Oak Park

Volume One is published — lulu.com — as a Blithe Spirit Publication.

Volume Two is in progress as Illinois Blues, focusing on an Oak Park-based state senator and a state representative for much of Oak Park and how they addressed constituents in a series of town-hall meetings in mid-2013.

Bowman, an Oak Parker for most of his life — a Chicagoan since May of 2015 — was a Chicago Daily News reporter (on religion) and a Chicago Tribune columnist (on Chicago history). He has been a columnist for the Wednesday Journal of Oak Park & River Forest and also blogs at that publication’s Oak Park Newspapers

He and his wife raised their six children in Oak Park, sending them to Beye, Emerson Junior High, and Oak Park & River Forest High School in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
