Making interreligious dialogue perhaps more difficult than it need be, those of us interested in the religious domain tend to miss the obvious: that we share an interest in the same domain. Our intra-domain differences, I submit, are dwarfed by the distance from our planet to others...such as the planet of the stock market enthusists. For more, if you are interested, pls see my post. http://deligentia.wordpress.com/2009/10/31/missing-the-obvious-in-religious-discussion-something-we-have-in-common/

Jim:

Let's face it. All to often the reason people volunteer to be members of a group like the "community" caucus or run for elected office is that they come in with an agenda. They want something for themselves, their friends, or they are obsessed with a political agenda. Let the voter beware when you accept the opinion of an ad hoc committee or believe a newspaper with its own social or political agenda.

Jim:

No, I was thinking about academic pursuits. However, if white fathers took more time to play basketball with their kids, it might help to improve their jumping just as helping with homework improves their math grades.

DLJ

DLJ -- You mean if white fathers shot more hoops with sons, they would jump higher?

Jim:

The problem with the controversey about the "achievement gap" at OPRF is that the problem is misnamed. Call it correctly the parenting gap and the solution to the problem becomes clearer.

Ghosts, goblins, ghouls. These Halloween terrors are tame. The most frightening thing I've seen is a Todd Stroger for CC President sign. So forget the witches, skeletons, and spiderwebs. To really scare those trick-or-treaters (and their parents), plant a Stroger sign on your front lawn. EEEK!

Jim:

I'm shocked to find out that Democrats might be using taxpayer employees to do political campaign work. Shocked!

I think we may see an upset for Cook County Board President and they are starting to get worried.

Couldn't agree more. As a former employee of Cook County I have been waiting for someone to begin a real investigation of the hiring practices of Cook County for a long time. I could tell some real stories.

As for Peraica, if I still lived in Cook County I would vote for him over Todd Stroger. Stroger doesn't know diddly-squat about Cook County programs.

George's? Is that place still there?

Dick's memory of long-ago days -- when you seemed to agree about so much -- points to something I've thought a lot about lately. I think at least one of you way back then must have kept certain thoughts to yourself. The younger you were the more likely you did.
