This blog

News and commentary about Oak Park, Illinois, that becomes material for Jim Bowman’s A Short History of Oak Park.  Volume One is published, at lulu.com, as a Blithe Spirit Publication.

It is available at lulu.com.

What appears on this blog may appear in future volumes, making an ongoing Short History.  It’s a different kind of history — part chronicle, part commentary, part — ah! — poetry.

Bowman, an Oak Parker off and on since first grade, was a Chicago Daily News reporter (on religion) and a Chicago Tribune columnist (on Chicago history). He and his wife raised their kids in Oak Park, sending them to Beye, Emerson Junior High, and Oak Park & River Forest High School in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
